Microsoft
Excel is one of the leading
spreadsheet programs, and is
used by a variety of
organizations all over the
world. It's strength lies in
it's ability to process numbers
on a large scale, making it
extremely suitable for many
industry sectors including
banking, business, finance,
statistics, sales and anywhere
where large quantities of data
need to be analysed.
The old expression "a picture speaks a thousand words" is very true when it comes to visualizing numerical data. Human beings can find it difficult to assimilate numbers presented as a table, whereas most of us find it a great deal easier to understand numerical data when it is presented as a chart or graph. Microsoft Excel takes full advantage of this with its wide range of charts -- and the great news is, they are a snap to create! Excel ships with a wide variety of graph types installed, each suited to a particular purpose. To see values changing over a period of time a column or line chart is probably best; to see the distribution within a population, e.g. market share, or sales by department, a pie chart is probably more suited. There is a range of chart types dedicated to statistical analysis, including stock, bubble, scatter and radar, but these are more specialized and are not covered here. How to create an Excel Graph
Excel will create a new graph based on the data you selected. If you used the keyboard shortcut it will place the graph on its own page named "Chart1". It is easy
to move or edit the chart by
first selecting it, the choosing
Chart Type or
Chart Options
and working through the wizard.
